Project Details
BlueScope Construction was awarded the contract in June and immediately started the design and material procurement — knowing the hangars needed to be enclosed to shelter the planes before the first snow.
Value engineering options were used to reduce the number of explosion-proof motors and operators necessary, which lowered the project cost while still maintaining the code requirements of the USAF. BlueScope Construction provided continuous fall protection to facilitate access to all portions of the plane and also by designing the APU unit for F-22 exhaust, which was customized to eliminate unnecessary induct fans.
The 103,000 square foot building has a metal standing seam roof system and insulated metal wall panels and includes Megadoors front and back for drive-through capability as well as a fire-safe wall and fire-safe IMPS. Green, sustainable design features were incorporated into the design and construction process.
