The Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County can now boast that they have the cleanest and greenest waste-to-energy power plant in North America. The recently opened facility utilizes state-of-the-art air pollution control technologies and has the capacity to process up to 1 million tons of post-recycled waste annually.

CDM Smith and Butler Heavy Structures teamed up early in the conceptual stage of this design-build project, allowing the greatest influence over the economy of the structures leading to the eventual award of the contract.

Butler Heavy Structures supplied the Tipping, APC, Ash, and Maintenance buildings as well as roof and wall materials for multiple other buildings. Due to the harsh environment, steel members were blast cleaned prior to the application of a 3-coat shop paint system.

Architectural treatments included multiple curved roof systems and below-eave eyebrows that wrapped around building corners. Nine different panel colors were also used to create dramatic visual effects.
