Bomgaars' store exterior with metal panel facade and covered entry

Bomgaars Supply, Inc.

A retail chain expands with a Butler facility engineered for efficiency, durability and performance with a low-maintenance solution to create a reliable, energy-efficient store.

Project
Overview

With more than 1,600 employees across 66 stores, Bomgaars needed a facility that balanced economy, energy efficiency and a welcoming retail environment capable of supporting its broad product line as it expanded to Gillette, Wyo.

To achieve this, Bomgaars chose a Butler Builder® whose commercial experience and familiarity with the region positioned them to guide the project with accuracy.

Butler® systems were a key part of the 49,000-square-foot structure’s design. Said Wendy Jaqua from Mountain Peak Builders: “Building with Butler systems met Bomgaars’ requirements, and we can confidently recommend Butler systems because of the importance the company places on product research and testing.”

Gillette continues to grow as Wyoming’s fourth-largest city and the center of the nation’s coal-producing region, making it a strategic location for Bomgaars to expand its family-owned retail operations.

The location sits at a key intersection in one of Gillette’s emerging commercial corridors, surrounded by new development that draws both local and visitor traffic. Bomgaars required an exterior presence that matched its role as a regional retail destination while delivering interior efficiency for more than 50,000 items across 10 departments.

Mountain Peak recommended a Butler structural system for its proven strength and design flexibility. Its ability to minimize interior columns created uninterrupted floor space essential for retail operations.

As Wendy Jacqua of Mountain Peak said, “The ability to maximize interior space in this structure was a perfect fit for what Bomgaars needed.”

To ensure long-term weather performance and energy efficiency, the MR-24® roof system in cool desert beige was selected for its extensive warranty, tested weathertight engineering and ability to support additional insulation. Bomgaars valued the system’s sustainability attributes, including cool-formulated color options that help reduce energy use.

For the exterior wall solution, Mountain Peak used the Shadowall™ system to deliver both visual uniformity and thermal performance. Its recessed fasteners create a clean, continuous appearance, and the system’s installation efficiency supported the fast-paced build. Bomgaars recognized that precision immediately.

The factory prepunched holes made a big impact on the speed and accuracy of the assembly.

When the store opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in June 2013, the building began performing as intended. As Bomgaars noted, “The building is operating as planned, and we had a good experience overall.”

The project strengthened the company’s presence in northeastern Wyoming and demonstrated how disciplined planning, proven systems and a capable Butler Builder deliver an assured result for a growing retailer and the community it serves.
