Hager Companies Reroof
After surviving a devastating tornado, a manufacturing facility required a replacement roof that matched the proven resilience of the original structure, restoring long term protection while meeting an aggressive schedule without interrupting daily operations.
Project
Overview
When a powerful tornado swept through the South, it left widespread destruction and severely damaged buildings across the area. One manufacturing facility, however, proved the value of engineering designed to perform when conditions are at their worst.
Although the structure remained standing, restoring long-term protection required a complete reroof. Delivered on an accelerated schedule with no disruption to production, the project reinforced a simple truth: proven performance earns confidence long before the next storm arrives.
Standing Strong After the Storm
The devastating storm reshaped the landscape – and tested the resilience of the buildings left behind. Roofs were ripped away, structures were compromised, and many facilities faced catastrophic damage. One building, however, stood apart.
Hager Companies emerged as the only structure in the area not to suffer catastrophic failure, and it was a Butler building. While the tornado caused damage, the building – and most of its roof system – remained largely intact, a testament to the strength of the original Butler design.
From Survival to the Next Chapter
While the building’s structural integrity held strong through the storm, the event made one thing clear: the roof system did need replacing. To ensure long-term protection and reliability for operations, Rainwater Construction Company, a Butler Builder, elected to complete a full reroof of the 57,600-square-foot manufacturing building.
The project required a complete tear-off and replacement – an approach that ensured the new system would meet today’s standards while preserving the value of the original Butler structure.
Choosing a Proven System
Given the building’s proven performance during the tornado, selecting a roof system with a documented history of durability, weathertight design, and reliability under extreme conditions was non-negotiable. With more than 55 years of in place performance, over 3 billion square feet installed worldwide, and an available 25 year weathertightness warranty, the Butler MR 24 Roof System has consistently demonstrated a service life that averages more than twice that of conventional roof systems. In a region where severe weather is an ongoing concern, the only solution that could provide Hager Companies with true peace of mind was the installation of another Butler MR 24 Roof System.
A Tight Timeline with No Room for Error
Timing was critical. The Butler reroof materials shipped at the end of March, setting an aggressive schedule for installation. From that point, the entire reroof project needed to be completed in just twenty (20) working days – without disrupting the operations of a multi-building manufacturing campus.
Executing a full tear-off and replacement on an active manufacturing site requires careful coordination, disciplined scheduling, and confidence in both materials and installation. All which Rainwater Construction handled excellently to keep the project on track and protect the facility throughout construction. Rainwater Construction completed the entire project two (2) days early in just eighteen (18) working days with zero safety incidents.
ReRoof Solution Designed to Stand Strong
The Reroof solution restored the building with a clean, durable, and highly engineered roof system while preserving the original Butler structure that had already proven its resilience when it mattered most.
This project underscores a powerful story of durability – from a building that survived a tornado to a reroof solution designed to stand strong for decades to come. For Hagar Manufacturing, the reroof wasn’t just about replacement – it was about investing in performance, protection, and confidence in the face of unpredictable weather.
When the next storm comes, this Butler Building will be ready.
The Butler MR-24 Roof System is simply the best performing roof system made, period. More than a half century ago, Butler Manufacturing wanted to set a new standard in metal roofing. Well, they set a new standard in ALL roofing. There is no equal to MR-24, it’s one of one!
