Virginia Varsity Storage
As part of a multiuse project, two self-storage buildings are created with a renovation project using Butler roof and building systems.
Project
Overview
On the site of a historic hardware store in Roanoke, Va., Virginia Varsity Storage planned to convert the property into a mixed-use development that would include self-storage, office space and residential units.
The 2.2-acre parcel contained five buildings and was home to about a dozen business tenants. Constructed in the 1960s, the existing structures were originally targeted for self-storage, but the plan was expanded due to its proximity to a greenway system.
Two of the buildings were demolished, and the remaining structures were refurbished in order to repair declining durability in the roof systems. That's where Butler came into the process. Using the MR-24® Roof System, the older buildings were reinforced to build toward decades of future use.
